Terms of Service
These Terms govern your use of RedactFile, operated by RedactFile (“we”, “us”, “our”). By accessing or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Privacy-first by architecture, not policy.
RedactFile is a 100% client-side application. Your PDF files are processed entirely inside your browser and never transmitted to any server. We have no technical capability to access, store, or view your documents. These Terms govern the software license and billing relationship — not a data processing agreement, because no data processing occurs on our end.
Section 1
Definitions
The following capitalised terms have the meanings set out below whenever they appear in these Terms.
Section 2
Acceptance of Terms
- By using the Service you confirm that you are at least 18 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, whichever is higher) and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement.
- If you are using the Service on behalf of a company or organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms.
- We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via the email associated with your account or via an in-app notice. Continued use after the effective date of the revised Terms constitutes acceptance.
- If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately stop using the Service.
Section 3
License to Use the Service
Subject to these Terms and timely payment of applicable fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal or internal business purposes.
You may not:
- Resell, sublicense, or provide access to the Service to third parties as a commercial offering.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service (beyond what is permitted by applicable open-source licenses).
- Use automated scripts, bots, or crawlers to access the Service at a rate that materially exceeds normal human usage.
- Circumvent any technical access controls, including but not limited to license tier checks.
- Remove or alter any proprietary notices or labels in the Service.
Section 4 — Important
Lifetime License — Full Definition
What is included:
- All Pro tools available at the date of purchase.
- All product updates (new tools, performance improvements, bug fixes) released within 24 months of your purchase date.
- Access for a single user on up to 3 browsers simultaneously.
- Priority email support for 12 months from purchase date.
What is not included:
- Updates released more than 24 months after your purchase date — these require a new Lifetime purchase or a Pro subscription to access.
- Any future product lines or separately-branded products that are not part of the core RedactFile tool suite.
- Team or multi-seat access — Lifetime Licenses are single-user.
- Custom integrations, API access, or white-label rights.
In the unlikely event that RedactFile ceases operations permanently, Lifetime License holders will be notified at least 60 days in advance and offered a pro-rated refund for any unused portion of the 24-month update window, calculated from the date of the cessation notice.
Section 5 — Read Carefully
Redaction Accuracy Disclaimer
RedactFile's automated detection uses regex-based pattern matching and heuristics to identify common sensitive data types (names, SSNs, credit card numbers, IBANs, API keys, etc.). While we work continuously to improve detection accuracy, automated tools are not infallible. Specifically:
- Sensitive information in non-standard formats, abbreviations, or unusual typefaces may not be detected.
- Embedded images inside PDFs are not scanned for text content.
- Scanned (image-only) PDFs without a text layer cannot be automatically redacted.
- Metadata fields not covered by our Metadata Remover tool may persist in the output file.
- Custom or proprietary data patterns unique to your document type may not be recognised.
Best practice — always:
- Review the suggested redaction boxes before applying them.
- Manually inspect the final PDF in a viewer (e.g. your browser or Adobe Reader) after processing.
- Run a text-search on the exported PDF for known sensitive strings.
- Consult a qualified professional before submitting redacted documents in legal, medical, or regulatory contexts.
RedactFile and its operators accept no liability for consequences arising from incomplete, incorrect, or missed redactions in documents processed through the Service. See Section 9 (Limitation of Liability) for the full disclaimer.
Section 6
Payments, Subscriptions & Billing
All payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy (the Merchant of Record) or Stripe. RedactFile never stores your payment card details.
Subscriptions (Monthly / Annual):
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing cycle.
- You may cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period — no partial refunds are issued for unused time.
- Price changes will be communicated at least 30 days in advance. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new price.
Lifetime License:
- One-time payment. No recurring charges.
- 30-day full refund window — no questions asked.
- See Section 4 for the complete Lifetime License definition.
Failed Payments:
- If a subscription payment fails, the billing processor will retry up to 3 times over 7 days.
- After 3 failed attempts, your account will be downgraded to the Free Tier automatically.
- You will retain access to all documents you processed — no data is deleted (because no data is stored on our servers).
Section 7
Acceptable Use Policy
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others. You must not use the Service to process or produce:
- Content that infringes any copyright, trademark, trade secret, patent, or other intellectual property right of any party.
- Content that is fraudulent, misleading, or intended to deceive.
- Documents that facilitate identity theft, fraud, or other illegal activity.
- Content that violates any applicable export control laws or sanctions regimes.
- Any material that would be considered illegal in your jurisdiction.
Because RedactFile does not receive or store your files, we cannot monitor document content. This clause places sole legal responsibility for the nature and use of processed documents on you, the User.
Section 8
Intellectual Property
The Service, including its underlying code, design, trademarks, and all associated materials, is owned by RedactFile and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
Your Content: Because your files are processed locally and never transmitted to us, we make no claim of any kind over your documents, their contents, or any output you generate. Your files remain 100% yours at all times.
Open-source components used in this project are governed by their respective licenses (MIT, Apache 2.0). A full dependency list is available in our public repository.
Section 9
Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL REDACTFILE OR ITS OPERATORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR REPUTATIONAL HARM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
IN JURISDICTIONS THAT DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES OR THE LIMITATION OF LIABILITY FOR CERTAIN TYPES OF DAMAGE, OUR LIABILITY SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. IN ALL CASES, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (B) USD $50.
Section 10
Governing Law & Disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which RedactFile is incorporated, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Before initiating any formal dispute, you agree to contact us at legal@redactfile.com and attempt to resolve the issue informally for at least 30 days.
If informal resolution fails, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration under the rules of a mutually agreed arbitration body. Class action waiver: you agree that any arbitration will be conducted on an individual basis and not as a class, consolidated, or representative action.
Section 11
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service immediately if you:
- Breach any provision of these Terms.
- Engage in conduct that we determine, in our sole discretion, to be harmful to the Service, other users, or third parties.
- Fail to pay applicable fees after the grace period described in Section 6.
You may terminate your use of the Service at any time by ceasing to use it and (if applicable) cancelling your subscription via your billing portal.
